Roofers
Storm damage
After a storm, protect the house first, then call your insurance company before anyone starts permanent repairs. A roofer can tarp it and write up the damage for your claim.
A tree on the house, or wires down? Stay at least 30 feet from any wire and call 911 or the electric company (National Grid 1-800-867-5222, NYSEG 1-800-572-1131).

Do this now
- Photos. Pictures of the damage from the ground and inside, with dates.
- Call your insurer. Ask what they need and whether they're sending an adjuster.
- A tarp. Stopping the water is usually expected and covered. Keep the receipt.
- Your deductible. In New York a roofer can't offer to pay or rebate your deductible. If one does, keep looking.
