No heat
A lot of no-heat calls turn out to be the thermostat, a switch or a clogged filter, so check those first. If the heat still won't come on, it needs a technician, and once it's cold out that's a same-day call.
Below freezing outside? Don't wait. A cold house can freeze pipes, so call today and say you have no heat.

Check these first
- Thermostat. Set it to Heat and a few degrees above the room. If the screen is blank, put in new batteries.
- Switch and breaker. There's a switch like a light switch on or near the furnace. Make sure it's on and its breaker hasn't tripped.
- Filter. A clogged filter can make a furnace shut itself off. If it's gray and caked, swap it.
- Front panel. A furnace won't run with its front door off or loose. Push it shut until it clicks.
If it's freezing out
- Open the cabinet doors under sinks on outside walls.
- Let a faucet drip on the coldest side of the house.
- Keep space heaters three feet from anything that can burn. Never heat the house with the oven or a grill.
