Roof leak
Most leaks start at flashing, around a chimney, vent or skylight, or where shingles are missing, and the water can show up a long way from where it gets in. A roofer can usually find and fix it; one leak doesn't always mean a new roof.
Water coming in now? Catch it, protect what's under it, and call. Many roofers will tarp it until a dry day.

Do this now
- Catch it. Buckets and towels. If the ceiling is sagging, stay out from under it.
- Lights. If water is near a light fixture, switch that circuit off at the panel.
- Photos. Pictures inside and out, from the ground, for insurance. Don't climb on a wet or icy roof.
- The attic. If you can get up there safely, look for where it's wet. It helps the roofer find it.
