Water heater

No hot water is often a pilot light, a tripped breaker or one worn part. A tank that leaks from the bottom can't be fixed; it needs replacing.

Check these first

  1. Gas heater. Look through the little window at the bottom for a flame. If the pilot's out, the relighting steps are on the label. Smell gas? Leave and call the gas company.
  2. Electric heater. Check its breaker. If it trips again right away, leave it off and call.
  3. Leaking?. Close the cold water valve on top of the tank, and turn the heater off: gas to Off, electric at the breaker.
